An incident filled penultimate race of the 2018/2019 ABB FIA Formula E season saw DS TECHEETAH’s drivers’ maintain the lead going into the final round tomorrow.
Despite not scoring any points due to multiple incidents, Jean-Éric Vergne maintains his Drivers’ Title lead and with André Lotterer now starting in Qualifying Group Two tomorrow following today’s result, both drivers are in a good position for the final championship fights.
Mark Preston, DS TECHEETAH Team Principal:
“Today was not at all what we wanted with multiple incidents catching our drivers out, but that’s done now. We’re still in the lead in both championships and it’s a new day tomorrow, that’s all that matters.”
Xavier Mestalan Pinon, DS Performance Director:
“As often in sport, things don’t happen as we imagine. Our cars are efficient and our drivers are fast. We remain ahead in both championships with an interesting lead, which is crucial before the final outcome. We remain calm and focused to make the most of our advantage.”
Jean-Éric Vergne, P15:
“So today didn’t really go to plan. I got involved in a lot of crashes that were not really my fault, but that’s part of motorsport, you have good days and bad days. Today was clearly a bad one but I still have a good lead into tomorrow’s final. Everything has to be done tomorrow.”
André Lotterer, P17:
“It wasn’t the result we expected in today’s race with neither cars getting any points. The start was good and I made up places but then got caught up in a race incident. I slowed down but got hit heavily from the back and then got spun round and that was the end of my day. In that whole situation I couldn’t avoid touching JEV, and that then caused him a puncture. Pretty disappointed to have this result, but it is ‘racing’ sometimes, so we need to keep our heads up and focus on tomorrow. We still have a team title to clinch and I want to end my season on a high.”
