The second race of the 2022 Berlin E-prix, round 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship took place this afternoon under the sunny sky of the Tempelhof Airport. Today’s track was reversed compared to yesterdays and the drivers had to tackle a new lay-out.
A few hours before the start of the race, the DS TECHEETAH drivers qualified in 5th (Antonio Felix Da Costa) and 8th (Jean-Eric Vergne) on the grid.
At the green flag, both Antonio Felix Da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne fought to keep their positions in the middle of the field. Facing tough competition on the German track, Antonio Felix Da Costa managed to finish the race in 6th position followed by French driver Jean-Eric Vergne in 9th. Both of the Techeetah drivers gained the support of the fans by winning FanBoost.
DS TECHEETAH scored a total of 32 points this weekend and is third in the Team Championship. On the drivers’ side, Jean-Eric Vergne is now third of the drivers’ Championship with 95 points, only 16 points behind the leader. With 12 points scored this weekend Antonio Felix Da Costa maintains his position in 10th in the standings.
The 9th round of the Season 8 will take place on the 4th June in Jakarta. It will be the first time the 100% electric championship travels to Indonesia.
Thomas Chevaucher, DS Performance Director and DS TECHEETAH Team Principal: “Today the race was harder than yesterday. Despite a big push from our drivers’, we were missing a bit of performance to be fight for a podium. We are obviously disappointed in this result, but we still scored new points and stay in the race for the Title. Now, let’s go to Jakarta!”
Mark Preston TECHEETAH CEO: “We had the pace to get through to the qualifying duels starting 5th and 8th. Another exciting race ensued on the clockwise layout of the Tempelhof track. The team came away with important points for both drivers and look forward to racing in Jakarta in a few weeks”
António Félix da Costa, driver of the #13 DS E-TENSE FE21: “I had a pretty solid race. I think the team did a great job today on the strategy and the attack mode, they nailed it. I think I had the quickest race possible on my side, tried to stay out of trouble and in the end we came home sixth. Losing the fifth place in the last lap was a little bit unfair to me because I got hit so I would have been happier with P5, but we still had a pretty solid weekend.”
Jean-Éric Vergne, driver of the #25 DS E-TENSE FE21: “I had a very difficult beginning of the race, some brake issues and I lost a lot of time. The pace was ok but it was not the same as the Mercedes. It’s not the best day even though we scored some points. Hopefully in Jakarta we can have a good race and I’m looking forward to it.”
