- Jean-Éric Vergne finishes second and Antonio Felix Da Costa 4th
- DS TECHEETAH is now second of the Teams’ Championship
- The tenth event of Season 8 will be held in Marrakech on July 2nd
This Saturday 4th June the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship raced for the first time in Jakarta, Indonesia. Under hot and stormy conditions, the 22 drivers started the 9th round of Season 8.
Earlier in the day, the qualifying session was as intense as expected. After a battle between the two DS TECHEETAH drivers, Jean-Éric Vergne took pole position, the 15th of his career, in his DS E-TENSE FE21 #25. A great second place by Antonio Felix Da Costa made the first row of the Jakarta E-Prix 100% DS TECHEETAH.
The race that followed was as tight as the qualifying. We had to manage the continued attacks from our competitors while keeping the pace. The race was interrupted by a Safety Car after the first lap resulting in an additional 1m22s to the racing time.
Thanks to the solid experience of DS TECHEETAH, “JEV” secured a second-place finish followed by Antonio in 4th position.
A strong result which scored the team a well-deserved 33 points, elevating DS TECHEETAH to 2nd in the overall Teams’ Championship, only 16 points behind the leader.
JEV leaves Jakarta in 2nd place in the Drivers’ Championship, 5 points behind the leader and Antonio in 10th.
The next round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will be held on July 2nd in Marrakech.
Jean-Éric Vergne, driver of the #25 DS E-TENSE FE21: “I started on pole, finished second so I’m a little bit frustrated by not getting the win but nevertheless we know that we have done a good job together with the team. We will keep on working, keep on pushing and I know that the win is not far. It’s definitely within reach and I know that next time in Marrakech I can go get this first win of the season.”
António Félix da Costa, driver of the #13 DS E-TENSE FE21: ” It was not a bad day but we are still not maximising our race pace. Obviously qualifying was great for the team by securing the front row. At the start of the race, I struggled a little bit with my brakes, and I had a couple of lock-ups and maybe lost a position and slightly comprised our attack mode strategy. During the race I struggled a little bit with some other details. Now we just need to do better as a team, work on the small details and the results will come.”
Thomas Chevaucher, DS Performance Director and DS TECHEETAH Team Principal: “What a race! We are obviously disappointed to not have won, which we could have, but this is a positive result. Thanks to JEV’s pole and to the second and fourth place of our drivers we were the most competitive team this weekend. We leave Jakarta with 33 more points and strong positions in the Teams and Drivers’ Championships. We are in the fight for the title more than ever!”
Mark Preston TECHEETAH CEO: “After an impressive qualifying where both drivers ended up in the final duel, JEV took pole and together the team delivered the first one-two in the exciting new qualifying format. Starting on the front row, JEV fought hard with Mitch Evans until the very end taking home a good haul of points to move back up to second in both championships with Antonio bringing home his car in fourth.”
